Nepal Family Health Program II |
Child HealthChild survival is still a critical issue in Nepal where on average, 61 children for every 1000 die before their 5th birthday. Two key programs addressing this issue are community case management of childhood illness and vitamin A supplementation for children under age five. NFHP II will continue support to the government, further refining technical approaches and helping to ensure strong program performance so that all children have access to quality services — even in the most remote areas of the country.Under NFHP II, we expect further progress in institutionalizing and mainstreaming Nepal's very strong vitamin A program. The program is also looking at provision of sick-child care in the private sector, which is an increasingly important source of such care. This may be an area where the Ministry, the medical and pharmacy professions, private businesses, and external development partners could fruitfully collaborate to improve the quality of care.
